 Mar 4 (Fri)            Leave 9.20 am Amsterdam (KLM 1701)-       Arr Madrid             11.55 am 

Rent 9-seater vans at Madrid airport, Drive 5 hours south to Granada (2 nights) (445 km)

Saturday Mar 5: Granada area, Alhambra fortress, El Albaicin, Sierra Nevada

Sunday, Mar 6: Drive (maybe via Almeria) to south coast at Benalmadena - hotel on coast (2 nights) (160 km)

Monday, Mar 7:  Geology of Ronda massif – peridotites. Options - traverse El Chorro gorge, visit Fuente de la Piedra (flamingos), Antequerra (15^th century city).  (250 km)

Tuesday Mar 8:  Drive southwest along coast to Rock of Gibraltar.  Drive to Cadiz, departure point for Chris Columbus (1 night). (240 km)

Wednesday Mar 9:  Drive to Sevilla area – hotel in Sevilla (1 night) (125 km)

            Optional: Drive to Huelva and coast, including Parque Nacional de Donana (200 km)

Thurs Mar 10: Drive to Rio Tinto metal district (Mining Museum, pit visit), and pollution of estuary, and connection with Mars Exploration, north of Huelva. Maybe caves of Aracena. (hotel in Aracena (1 night). (110 km)

Fri Mar 11: Drive NE to Almaden, SW of Ciudad Real (hotel in Almaden, 1 night). (305 km)

Sat Mar 12: Tour of Almaden mercury mining district and history.  Drive north through Ciudad Real, Toledo, and end up in Madrid  (Drop vans). Hotel downtown in Madrid (2 nights) (300 km)

Sun Mar 13: Madrid - free day, touring, options include Prado art museum, Mineralogy Museum at the University of Madrid, Palacio Real, El Escorial, Valley of the Fallen.

Mon Mar 14:   Depart 6.20 am Madrid  (KLM 1708)-             Arr Amsterdam 9.10 am

                        Depart 10.45 am Amsterdam (KLM 6041) -       Arr Minneapolis 12.45 pm
