Dr Colin Paterson received the SDSM&T Presidential Award for Outstanding Professor 2014. Economic Geology Ore Collection. The ore collection of 4600 samples has been entered by David LaPorte and Keyo Halbmeier (GeoE students) in to a Microsoft Access database. This collection includes samples dating back to the 1930s and is currently housed in the Minerals Room, Paleontology Research Laboratory, SDSM&T. The database will be available soon.

Dr Paterson has retired:

  • Dr Paterson retired as a fulltime faculty member in May 2014 - however, he is staying on as Emeritus Professor and Curator of Mineralogy for the SDSM&T Museum of Geology. He intends to continue pursuing ore deposit research, but does not take on any new graduate students

  • October 2017 - SEG Student Chapter trip to Turquoise Ridge goldmine, Nevada
    • October 2018 - SEG Student Chapter trip to Gilt Edge/Brohm mine, Black Hills to view Agnico-Eagle drilling program
