About the MAA
The Mathematical Association of America (MAA) is a national association that is dedicated to undergraduate mathematics education. With thousands of members nationwide, the MAA is a diverse group that ranges from nationally recognized research mathematicians to undergraduate students. The MAA supports several professional journals, the oldest of these journals is the American Mathematical Monthly (founded in 1894). The Monthly actually predates the MAA and it was also the motivational force for the formation of this national organization. The earliest form of the MAA arose in 1913 when the editor of the Monthly enlisted the assistance of several universities for maintaining the publication. The association now stands at over 29,000 members spread over 29 regional sections. In addition to the journal offerings, the MAA also sponsors: a national faculty development program, mathematical competitions for high school students, two large national meetings, a digital library, a publication program, and many other activities.
