- 2014: Enhanced Particle Removal of Algae-Laden Surfaces Using Viscoelastic Fluids
- Seth Gwin, Eric Eichenbaum, & Solomon Levinrad
- Impinging jets of viscoelastic fluids have recently been demonstrated to enhance particle removal from surfaces. This team would design and build a recycling jet to remove particulate from a surface in a particular application, e.g. algae from a ship hull. Early conceptual designs feature the jet of highly elastic fluid discharged from the center of a cylindrical cross-section and siphoned to a recycle system. Early prototypes might be fabricated from off-the-shelf commercial materials, but the team’s goal is a research-quality device that can be used by the principal investigator.
