My major research interests include, but not limited to the following, subsurface flow and solute transport modeling, geostatistics, reservoir modeling, data assimilation/parameter estimation, inverse method, machine learning, uncertainty assessment, risk analysis and regional groundwater flow modeling. Potential applications can be water resource management, contaminant remediation, carbon sequestration, waste disposal, geothermal energy and enhanced oil recovery.

I was the recipient of the Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Students Abroad (2012) and SD Board of Regents Competitive Research Award (2017) . I was on the expert panel for German Science Foundation (2017). I am serving as an Associate editor for Hydrogeology Journal and Stochastic Environmental Research and Risk Assessment, and a Guest editor for Geofluids journal. I have published more than 30 peer-reviewed articles for scientific journals, including two most cited papers in Advances in Water Resources. I am actively involved in various professional services and activities in subsurface flow and transport modeling, and serving as organization committee member for annual Western SD Hydrology meeting, scientific committee member for 10th International Geostatistic Congress and for 18th annual conference of International Association of Mathematical Geosciences, and co-chair of the organizational committee of 20th annual conference of International Association of Mathematical Geosciences.

I am looking for motivated undergraduate and graduate students as well as visiting scholar to join my group. In particular, I am looking for a research assistant working on modeling of hydraulic fracturing. If you are interested, please contact me.
